Amidst rising COVID-19 infections, 258 vaccine side effect cases recorded
Nigeria’s confirmed COVID-19 infection cases have surpassed 240,000. This is as Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states have reported no fewer than 258 cases of adverse effects following immunisation.
The PUNCH reports that COVID-19 cases in Nigeria have continued to increase following the discovery of the new variant of the disease.
The Omicron variant, which has also been designated a variant of concern, has continued to cause surges in COVID-19 cases all over the world.
Though experts and the World Health Organisation have said the Omicron may not lead to an increase in the number of deaths, early studies and observation of trends have continued to reveal that there has been an increase in the rate of hospitalisation.
For example, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control stated that as of December 30, no fewer than 23,855 cases were currently on admission in 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The centre also noted that a total of 3,028 had died, while the total number of confirmed cases was 240,374.
Meanwhile, an analysis of the health sector report for Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states published by the Federal Ministry of Health and development partners has revealed that no fewer than 258 individuals reported adverse effects following immunisation.
